Travellers Tales – Meeting the Neighbours.

Hi there everyone.  As you may of guessed from the title of this blog I’m on my travels.  I am in Kissimme Florida and I thought the first thing I should do is get to know my new neighbours.  So I went for walkies and the first thing I came across was a lake out the back of my villa.  That’s when I noticed the sign and it gave me a giggle! I mean who in their right mind would want to “molest an alligator” lol.  After some looking I spotted my first gator who was an impressive sight!

While I was waiting around I attracted the attention of some very friendly storks who where more than happy to take some of my breakfast.  It wasn’t long before I spotted more of my neighbours in the form of vultures!  They just seemed to be hanging around waiting for their breakfast and with the gator still around I began to wonder was that going to be me.

Last but not least was the buzzards that seemed to be circling above my head.  With the size of their wingspan I heard them before I seen them but i managed to capture 1 of these majestic creatures in full flight.

Right I’m off to continue my adventure, catch you all laterz.

G — Nice pics! Looks like you are having fun in Florida. I can tell you more about the birds you photographed. The white bird with the red beak is an adult ibis. It is the mascot for the University of Miami in Florida. It is known to be a tough bird as it is the last to leave an area in an impending storm/hurricane & it is also the first to return to the area! The black birds are called black vultures. They do all the dirty work & eat deceased animals on the road & in the swamp. They circle high in the sky to spot their meals. If you see a similar bird with a red head that would be a turkey vulture. In Florida believe it or not people always bother the gators. They throw things at them or tease them so they put those signs up to warn you. I took a hike in Florida along a river a few years back & gator got so mad at me being in the area he growled & water danced on his back & all the bumps on his back called scutes vibrated & seemed to rattle. Needless to say I was out of his way in no time. It might be the fastest I have ever run actually! LOL :)
